I take my hat off to Jim Swire who against all the odds has contined to fight for the truth.

http://www.theherald.co.uk/news/n...ppeal_if_Megrahi_dies_in_jail.php

His pledge to continue the appeal of Megrahi should he die before he reaches the appeal courts deserves praise.

I stand by him all the way and will support any move he makes for the release of Megrahi.

Technically TC Campbell and Steele were mass murderers in the eyes of the law, but they qualified for Interim Liberation.

Are our Courts acting in a racist manner ?

I do not believe our Top Judge has not looked into Megrahi's Grounds of Appeal as suggested in yesterdays press. That's what the week was indeed for.

So many murderers have been granted this, Why not Megrahi ?

After listening to Robin Johnston speaking at the opening of the Innocent Project Scotland I am convinced Megrahi has very strong grounds of appeal and on this note alone he is entitled to Interim Liberation.

The cancer comes second and heaps more distress not only on Megrahi but his whole Family.

I am sure Scotland is not behind this call and our courts will regret their actions later

Keep up the great work Jim.

Best Wishes

It is sad that the Establishment may never  honour the work Dr Swire and the British families of those who died in Lockerbie have put in to find the truth about their love ones.

Also sad is the steadfast way that some of the American families refuse to believe that Al-Magrahi might be innocent, and a pawn used by their goverment for there own agenda.

Like many Miscarraiges of justice i hope the truth comes out before long and not like some cases  after 20 to 25 years in prison, but think nobody will ever know the real truth as to what happened over the Scottish borders.

I felt deeply saddend but not surprised at the decision made. A decision I believe was probaly made long before Friday.

I admire Mr Swire and his determination that the fight for justice will go on.

Dr. Swire is a man I greatly admire and respect.   He has aged considerably since this began, it has become his life.  I am so pleased that a man of his stature represents the British families involved in that awful Lockerbie night.  They do so with great dignity.   It is a night I shall never forget.

It all depends on how progressive Magrahi's illness proves to be.  I think in the end justice will be done, particularly with someone like Dr. Swire at the forefront, and I wish him every success.

I think the Judges have taken many factors into consideration in their recent decision.

Jim Swire will never give up.   I wish there were more people like him.  Genuine people with no agenda of their own.

W.Roughead

Can you explain your comment in a bit more detail here:

Quote:
Genuine people with no agenda of their own.

Are you suggesting some people are not genuinely supporting Megrahi because of their own Agenda's ?

Since you are accusing people of this openly on this forum can you say exactly who and what you are referring to ?

I wish all the Megrahi's Well and support his release.

Hello Wullie,

No, you misunderstand what I said.  I am talking in very general terms, and I AM NOT talking about anyone on this forum.

Sorry if I gave that impression.   If there are people on this forum who are not genuine, I certainly do not know who they might be.   I do not know anyone on this forum personally, it is equally true that no one on this forum knows me or anything about me, therefore, it is highly unlikely that I would accuse anyone here of being less than genuine.

Indeed, from what I have seen, everyone without exception supports Megrahi and certainly Dr. Swire.

I am wondering why you would jump to that conclusion?

I should perhaps re-phrase my comments in future.   Obviously, there are some sensitivities on here.

I will remind you and anyone else who wishes to take issue with me on any point or statement I may make, that I am entitled [as are you] to my thoughts and opinions.

Hi W.Roughead

Indeed we do not know who you are and if that is your wish then that is fine by me, No Problems there.

I just thought your last comment could have finnished with:

Quote:
I wish there were more people like him.

I too wish there were more people like Jim Swire with the conviction to stand by truth and justice.

Basically what I am saying here is that there is no evidence to base a conviction on in Megrahi's case

Our High Court Judges got it wrong and I know for sure his defence team of Taylor did not put the whole case forward.

121 or 131 witnesses listed and Taylor QC did the exact same as he did with me in 1982, stood up and closed the defence without any consultation with Megrahi or the Solicitors after only 3 witnesses were called.

I sacked him and this resulted in him telling the Legal Aid Board I had no grounds for appeal and Legal Aid was refused to me.

Megrahi is lucky he has the resources to continue his appeal which I support fully, but in 1982 I was not so lucky.

It seems to me by your last comment you were having a dig at someone (I did not say me) that you thought had hidden agendas.

As for your opinions, I will never impinge upon anyones opinion and support freedom of speech so please do not take any of my comments as attacking anyones freedom of speech, we all have this right and should use it.

I have to say, when the news of the ruling to refuse Mr Megrahi's release came through, I was ashamed to be Scottish.  What our government and judges have done in this case is appalling, yet they have done it, in the eyes of the world, "on our behalf."

Thank god for forums like this and others, which let the rest of the world see that the Scottish people do not believe that justice has been done, or even seen to be done.

And thank god for people like Jim Swire, and others like him, who simply will not back down, and who continue to be a thorn in the flesh of those who would happily continue the cover-up.

It was Kevin who introduced the subject of "agendas" originally, referring, I believe, to the "behind the scenes" deals which were made by the various government agencies. I originally misunderstood the exchange between Big Wullie and W Roughead regarding agendas so please forgive my previous post, if anyone read it, which I am now amending.  I believe that everyone fighting miscarriage of justice or wrongful conviction has "their own agenda," but that agenda is pretty much the same across the board - to see Scottish justice properly done, and to stop the incompetence, cover-up and corruption which seems to be at the heart of every case I have come across.

I'd just like to say, we're all on the same side of the fence in this fight - we have to fight together, not each other. Those who would preserve the corruption and injustice which is rife in our country have a lot to gain by keeping us divided - if we accept from the outset that there may be misunderstandings and slight breakdowns in communications between us all, but that, at the end of the day, we are all working towards the same end, we can, and will, build a formidable force for change.

I'm proud to be a part of that process, and and it's great to see so many people having their say on forums like this.

Dear Angeline and other contributors,

Good to see your comments on the forum highlighting yet another area ripe for reform.

In relation to most of the injustices referred to most of the respondents, despite their understandable anger and frustration, are measured and thoughtful in their comment.

The sad fact is however that injustice is not a media or a political priority – at least not in the long run.

A number of issues like the horrendous ‘Baby P’   case receive enormous initial publicity but soon fade into history.

A review of this Sunday’s papers for example reveals that the Lockerbie disaster and Mr. Megrahi’s plight receives little or no coverage, even in the broadsheets, and virtually no editorial comment. The worst terrorist atrocity ever to occur on the British mainland is ignored while page upon page is devoted to the current economic recession and football and sport features even more heavily.

http://news.google.co.uk/news?hl=...egrahi&ie=UTF-8&scoring=n

While I am loathe to criticise the media, because they above all else were responsible for forcing the previous Scottish Executive and the Crown Office to the negotiating table in my daughter’s case, without their support we can have only limited success in fighting injustice.

I certainly hope that they cover the forthcoming 'Fingerprint Inquiry Scotland'  and feel able to highlight the many institutional problems that make fighting injustice such a frustrating experience in our modern Scotland.  Hopefully the Inquiry will also highlight some of the solutions to these problems and our new Scottish Government will take action on these findings.

The next Inquiry session is at 10.30 am on Friday 21 November in the Glasgow Concert Hall. I look forward to seeing some of you there.

Best wishes,

Iain
