MacAskill faces MSPs' fury on court vote and Canada trip

Labour justice spokesman Richard Baker told The Scotsman afterwards that he and his party would support a motion of no confidence in Mr MacAskill.

"He just came up with the same excuses as last week," said Mr Baker. "This is not additional, as Mr MacAskill claimed, but essential for the progression of the justice system."

Conservative justice spokesman and convener of the Justice Committee Bill Aitken made a veiled threat in his response.

"We have lost confidence in the justice secretary on a range of issues," he told Mr MacAskill in the chamber.

Afterwards he said he was weighing up his options on a motion of no confidence, but he later suggested that the minister had one more chance.

Liberal Democrat justice spokesman Robert Brown branded Mr MacAskill's approach "a shambles" and said he should resign.

He added: "The Minister should be embarrassed to tell Parliament that the SNP holds its view in contempt."

Demands for MacAskill to resign over court snub

His statement sparked an angry backlash from opposition MSPs with some of the strongest criticism coming from LibDem justice spokesman Robert Brown.

He said: "The Justice Secretary's weasel words about Community Courts made for a sorry spectacle. He should be embarrassed to tell parliament that the SNP holds its view in contempt. If the Government is not prepared to reconsider its position, then the Justice Secretary should be reconsidering his."

Richard Baker, Labour's justice spokesman, branded Mr MacAskill's statement "an insult to this parliament".

"We all recognise the financial pressures that exist, but despite those Glasgow City Council has made it clear they were ready to invest millions in this court because they believe it would work."

Mr Baker said the scheme - modelled on courts operating in New York - was "proven to deliver tough and effective community payback".

Tory justice spokesman Bill Aitken said there had been a clear majority in the parliament for proceeding with the project and ignoring the vote was a "negation of parliamentary democracy".

He said Conservatives had "little confidence" in Mr MacAskill across a range of policies. He added: "This defiance of parliament on this issue raises doubts as to his ability to satisfy this chamber of his competence and suitability for office."

Unsure why you can't vote IMO ... but it seems that there are still some deluded fans of MacAskill and this unaccountable, lawyer (and establishment) loving / protecting and "no justice" SNP "Government" still out there after all.  Some people just never learn.

More fool them.

All the best.

Scottish Government attacked over escaped prisoner

Labour leader Iain Gray said the escape of Brian Martin from an open prison was the latest sign that Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill was "just not up to the job".

WAS KEVIN MCLEOD MURDERED IN 1997 BY A PRISONER ON HOME LEAVE ????
WHY WONT THE AUTHORITIES TELL HIS FAMILY ???

http://www.johnogroat-journal.co..../McLeods_seek_prison_details.html

Letter to Chief Constable ------

Chief Constable
Northern Constabulary
Police HQ
Inverness

20 May 2009

Dear Mr Latimer

DEATH OF KEVIN MCLEOD - PRISONER ---------  ----------

I refer to the subject and my ongoing concern and suspicions relating to the issue of prisoner -------- -------- movements at the time of my son Kevins death.

I refer to correspondence dated 19 February 2001 from Detective Inspector ----------- ---------- which he informed my family that, ------- -------- was in prison at the time of Kevins death.

I agree with DI --------- that ------------- was indeed a serving prisoner at the time of Kevins death, however, it is my firm belief that --------- was entitled to weekend home leave in preperation for his final release on Friday --  ------------ 1997, and that ------------ was not in prison on the weekend of Kevins death, and was therefore possibly involved with the circumstances surrounding Kevins death.

However, should you as Chief Constable of Northern Constabulary Police Force indeed confirm that ---------- ---------- was not at liberty from prison on the weekend of Kevins death, then this matter can finally be concluded.

Your response to both my concern and my letter of complaint dated 13th May 2009 would be welcomed and appreciated.

Yours sincerely

                                       ---------------------------------------
FOI Decision 201/2007 Mr Allan McLeod and the Scottish Prison Service

Request for dates of temporary release for a named prisoner

Applicant: Mr Allan McLeod
Authority: Scottish Prison Service
Case No: 200700676
Decision Date: 30 October 2007

20.I have examined the information contained within the electronic PR2 records that have been supplied to my Office by the Ministers. These records contain information that would allow confirmation of whether (and, if so, when) the named prisoner had been granted temporary release. I have noted the Ministers' comments that they did not consider the information to be sufficiently accurate to enable the SPS to identify whether it fell within the scope of Mr McLeod's request i.e. to identify periods of day or weekend release as requested by Mr McLeod.

21.Having examined this information and the wording of Mr McLeod's request, I am satisfied that the information does in fact fall within the scope of the request. I must therefore disagree with the Ministers' assertion that the recorded information was insufficiently accurate to enable the SPS to identify whether the information was held. I consider that the SPS placed too narrow an interpretation on the wording of the request and, as a result, I consider the SPS was wrong to inform Mr McLeod that the information was no longer recorded.

Deputy Crown Agent Nov 07
Whether Mr ------------ or anyone else was held at Castle Huntly Prison at any other time is information not held routinely by Crown Office or the Procurator Fiscal and there is presently no proper basis at present for us to seek to obtain it.

Central Scotland Chief Constable Andrew Cameron 2002
" It does not lie within the remit of this enquiry to investigate the issue of ----------- ----------- imprisonment.

In response to Allan's posting and Kevin's family's dogged and tenacious 12-year fight for the TRUTH and JUSTICE, I would merely wish them every success in their continuing quest and repeat what I said to them in my recent posting here :

http://shirleymckie.myfastforum.org/sutra3392.php#3392

All the very best once again.

As for Scotland's beleaguered INjustice Secretary, Kenny MacAskill, I'm afraid I have no sympathy for any man who refuses to listen to the pleas and screams of those who have repeatedly approached him looking for his help and intervention in their cases of wrong-doing, corruption, injustice and miscarriages of justice ... at the hands of those in Scotland's "justice system" who have fouled up, conspired to defeat the ends of justice and ruined many people's lives in the process of their corrupt, criminal and underhanded misdemeanours.  MacAskill is as culpable for turning a blind eye and refusing to take any action after all.

Methinks "yer tea's oot Kenny boy!" ... and not before time for all those looking for justice.

Or as the opposition benches have been saying over recent weeks :

"Kenny MacAskill is just not up to the job" ...

If this is what Scotland's "Government" and "Justice" Department has really now become under Salmond, MacAskill and the Scottish National Party, what chance do any of us really have with this lot in power? ...

Well, that just shows us what rubbish Government we have in Scotland.

Rubbish. Centred on monetary gain for themselves.Who is Alex going to drag out as the latest donors to the SNP and then dance to their tune for legislation (or lack of it).

Funnily enough I was speaking to an SNP insider (he's been a member for many years, knows Alex quite well) but this man told me the party feels like a dictatorship now, and with Ministers bullying and blackmailing to keep their portfolios, well .. it almost sounds a bit like something from 1930's Germany, as some comments occasional point out.

MacAskill is hardly worth resigning over, let alone even adding a stamp to an envelope to what has now become a rather twisted, racist, and foul mouthed Justice Department at the Scottish Government.

(If any members of it are reading, I especially liked the story about the laptop which was destroyed because one of the officials downloaded too much ****) - nice touch for transparency there ...
