Figures released on 11 march 2009 show that there are 170 serving Police Officers currently employed in Scottish Police Forces with criminal convictions.
This is surely unacceptable.
The feeble response from the Scottish Police Federation was along the lines that their profession had been singled out and intimated that other professions were just as bad!?
This clearly demonstrates that the SPF will do nothing to resolve the issue but merely deflect same knowing that any fuss will slowly fade away.
Surely Chief Constables and SPF reps. need to put their own house in order to gain public confidence?
The Chief Constable of Grampian Police is the President of ACPOS.
Given that the ratio of convicted cops is the highest in HIS force would it be wrong to speculate that therein lies part of the problem?
Let's face it Chief Constables are in effect accountable to no-one and seemingly beyond reproach.
I am presently in the process of forming an epetition to the Scottish Parliament calling for a change in legislation that would automatically require the dismissal of Officers convicted of criminal offences, other than minor road traffic ones. I strongly believe that a hardline approach should be taken now otherwise this situation can only get worse.

It is beyond all reason that a person who is responsible for law and order should have convictions for dishonesty violence or for instance could be a pedophile.
If they are driving do they have a conviction for careless or dangerous driving. I believe it is in the public interest to know what these convictions are for.
