Amanda Duffy murder investigation opened again 20 years after death
A re-investigation into the murder of a woman found dead on waste ground in Lanarkshire has been launched on the 20th anniversary of the discovery of her body.
Drama student Amanda Duffy was found dead in waste ground in Hamilton’s Miller Street in the early hours of Saturday, May 30 in 1992. An incident room has now been set up in Larkhall Police Office.
Detective Superintendent Alan Buchanan, the officer in charge of the investigation, is urging people who may have information regarding the murder and who have not yet come forward to do so now.
He added: "It is now twenty years since the appalling murder of Amanda and every day her family have to live with the knowledge that the person responsible for the murder of their daughter has never been brought to justice. I believe that certain people have information in relation to Amanda's murder that they are withholding, perhaps from a sense of misguided loyalty and may be reluctant to come forward with that information.
“I now need those people to look at their consciences and think of Amanda's family and friends who have been through the worst experience imaginable in losing a loved one in the most horrific way.
"If you have information that may assist the investigation please contact the incident room on 01698 202326 or alternatively Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where anonymity can be maintained. There is also a dedicated e mail address - AmandaDuffyInquiry@strathclyde.pnn.police.uk where information can be forwarded to.”
While I hope justice prevails having sat through the Nat Fraser trial I fear the passage of time means there can never be a fair re-trial.
Witnesses have a severe problem with recall after the passage of time which has been pretty evident during this Nat Fraser re-trial. _________________ http://justiceforwulliebeck.webs.com/
This is one case that riles me as I have known the family for sometime and the treatment they received at the hands of the man tried over this crime and his subsequent behavior afterwards was horrendous.
When the Cadder ruling came into play it was the 1st case that sprang to mind with me as there was so much not disclosed and so many aspects of the handling of the case that simply where just inadequate to say the least.
I have the feeling that the authorities are doing all they can to get some kind of new info so that this man can be held accountable for what happened.
Yeah I didn't mean the Cadder ruling here I typed that in a hurry and I was thinking about the cadder ruling for some reason wullie.
I understand it that the DJ laws mean that new evidence again has to be produced either to reopen or retry someone correct?
If so is this not just another appeal route or is the main difference that a retrial would always be the outcome?
I heard he was always under some form of supervision which may have happened due to other offence's I know he was investigated for and not the Duffy murder so any search of his house may be because of different crimes. I do however welcome this new investigation into the Duffy case.
