|I returned from holiday to the sad news that Michael Marra, one of Scotland's finest folk luminaries, has died.
I met Michael after he had written his protest song, I am Shirley McKie, denouncing the lies surrounding her case.
|"I am Shirley McKie. She is me and I am she. You are too, Shirley is you. We are she because Shirley is we."
"We lecture children if they're telling lies, they will not prosper and they will not thrive... And even the First Minister must sometimes stand naked."
Modest, articulate, and passionate about Scotland, its culture and people he was a man who epitomised what it meant to be Scottish. A true citizen of Scotland who still managed to embrace the world and see the underlying values of the many cultures he experienced.
He will be sadly missed.
