It is my opinion that they want to remove these powers solely to stop appeals to the Privy Council.

John Scott certainly thinks this would be a bad idea:

The Lord Advocate will never be stripped of her power - she is a constitutional figure head....and her role and duties are regulated by the Scotland Act 1998
