A very good article Wullie! We hope that more positive things will happen for you and your family during 2009!
You have our 100% support and every time when we have spoken to different journalists, we have repeatedly told them about both you and other families that is fighting to get the truth out in the open, so that real Justice will be done. We have grasped the oppurtunity to highlight all cases that we know about and have contact with, and every time when we tell them that we are very concerned about the many cases of Injustice we hope to inspire the members of the Media to make more articles since there are very important miscariages of Justice that should be made more articles about!
Thank you Craig Robertson at Sunday Post, for making a very good article and thank you Sunday Post for wanting to make injustice Visible.
We hope that others will follow!
* INJUSTICE MUST BE MADE VISIBLE *

Very well done Wullie, a good article and hopefully this will help to further your case. It does not take a great deal of common sense to work out that someone who refused to be released on parole and is still fighting after 21 years of freedom is innocent.
Incidentally how many years would have been taken from your sentence if you had taken parole. And how ridiculous is our parole system that will not release a person who still denies guilt after so many years. _________________ We are the parents in Scotland denied justice for our children who had illegal post mortem's or had organs removed illegally at post mortem. |

I sent the following message to the Sunday Post:
| Quote: | Dear Sunday Post,
As an independent expert involved in another fight for justice for a decade now in Scotland, it was good news indeed to see the article on William Beck. I have been following his story for several years. I have no doubt of Mr. Beck's innocence, based on over 35 years observing criminals and their behavior from a law enforcement background myself. But my observation of "criminal justice" in Scotland leads me to the conclusion that there is sometimes too heavy an official emphasis on the "criminal" and too little on the "justice." The Fingerprint Inquiry in the evidence stemming from the murder of Marion Ross is a step in the right direction. Let's hope the Scottish Government can see its way clear to an equal effort to reinstill justice into the system in more cases of injustice, such as Mr. Beck's. And thank goodness for a press that stands up for those wrongly accused and takes up the fight for the "little man" against an oppressive system.
Sincerely,
Pat A. Wertheim |

I would like to thank all those who have wished me well and all those who support me.
Lydia you asked the following:
| Quote: | | Incidentally how many years would have been taken from your sentence if you had taken parole. |
In 182 when I was convicted and sentenced to 6 years I was eligible for parole after one third which would have been two years, Instead after four years (two thirds) my sentence was complete.
| Quote: | | People in those days basically only served two thirds of a sentence |
There was no licence after that like we get with people who are parolled where they remained on licence for the remainder of their sentence, Something I just could not accept.
From the date of my admission to Saughton Prison I told the Governor to just leave me alone and not try to rehabilitate me because I should not be there.
I was moved to Perth Prison where I again made clear my wish to just be left alone but they insisted on trying to upgrade me by moving me to different halls which I just could not accept, and after an incident I was moved to Peterhead where eventually the Authorities just left me alone.
There was no such a thing as only serving half your sentence then either.
Sadly despite all the visible wrongs with my case highlighted above SCCRC sought to refuse to refer my case back for appeal.
Thank God for a good QC who belives in my case and the Nobile Officium.
Should my application to Nobile Officium fail then I will be able to apply to Europe within 6 months of final determination, Or maybe even use the Privy Council.
Once again thanks for all the lovely comments and well wishes.
I look forward to next sunday with great anticipation to see if the Sunday Post highlights the many comments people have sent them.
Perhaps when we have experts like Pat above voicing concerns people will listen more intently.
Best Wishes
Wullie Beck |

I admire your determination and wish you well with Nobile Officium, I hope for your financial sake that helps. Given that you have been unable to find employment taking the matter to Europe and the Privy Council is an extremely expensive effort - Best of Luck! This is very good news. Well done, Wullie, for keeping up the fight, and for explaining so perfectly why you've fought so hard for so long -
"I didn't do it, it's as simple as that."
This story will be an inspiration for everyone fighting injustice, and will hopefully open the eyes of those who just don't believe that such injustice happens in our "justice" system.
Thank you so much for sharing what you do with so many others - you give hope in places where it seems there is none.
Very best wishes with the next moves - it can surely only be a matter of time now before the authorities finally do the right thing. _________________ As long as one heart still holds on, then hope will never really be gone |

Wullie thank you for that answer, I should have posted my letter to the paper on here but I just did not think so here it is below.
I have no idea how to do that very professional wee quote box that you all use.
"""Recently I read the above article and I just felt I had to congratulate you on the article itself. I also wanted to thank you for taking the time and the courage to stand up and be counted. I do realize it is difficult but it seems the media are a little reticent when a person has been found guilty in court no matter the weight of evidence to the contrary or lack of evidence in some cases.
It does not take a great deal of common sense to realize that no man would refuse parole and still fight on 28 years later for justice if he were guilty. So few people take the time to listen to these cases they would dismiss them out of hand.
I think the media could help a great deal with some of the cases brought to my attention during the silent walk for justice but unfortunately, most cases were overshadowed by the Al Magrahi case. """""
Thank you
Lydia Reid

Wullie,
I have a habit of going back and reading again when I have time and as is often the way more meaning or new facts pop out in the second reading.
I believe in at least trying, to walk a mile in a man’s shoes, which is not always possible, but I do try.
I am also aware I could never hope to sum up in a few words all that you must have endured as this young man, nor what you endured as the Wullie that then tried to live a normal life after you were wrongly labelled a violent robber and a criminal
I am trying to imagine this young man unfairly accused probably still believing in the great British or Scottish system of justice. Probably going through the trial still thinking that way. I imagine when you first entered Saughton Prison after a guilty verdict, which you did not expect, the shock must have been terrible it is no nice place to be.
It seems they moved you to ever more difficult and harder prisons. I have no way of knowing whether that is the system or was this because you refused to admit guilt. You mention an incident and I think were you forced at some time to defend yourself against some of these truly guilty prisoners or did you just find the whole situation so frustrating that you reacted, this would not be surprising. Peterhead I know is the worst of all the prisons reserved for the most corrupted prisoners, that alone must have been so horrific for you.
Then I came back to the fact that this happened to a young man of twenty and how hard it must have been for you to continually say, “I will not enter your system I am not guilty”.
What I fail to understand is why this did not register with someone in the system, or did it and they simply chose to ignore this young man. Was it that our system even then did not want to prove someone innocent after a guilty verdict?
I also have a belief and that is if you stand tall and refuse to allow the wrongs to change you as a person you as a person will benefit and I think this has happened to you. Instead of turning into a bitter nasty person, you set out to prove your innocence and help others, this only served to make you into a strong person.
You should be very proud of the man that is Wullie.
God Bless
