Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi was convicted before the High Court of Justiciary sitting in the Netherlands of the murder of 270 people.

Mr Megrahi contends that he has been the victim of a miscarriage of justice.

His case was referred back to the Court of Criminal Appeal by the Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission on 27th June 2007.

He abandoned his appeal against conviction and sentence, with leave of the Court, on 18 August 2009.

The purpose of this website is to explain the basis of his challenge to that conviction.

Initially, he intends to publish those parts of his Grounds of Appeal which were argued before the Court between 28 April and 19 May 2009.

Thereafter, he will publish the Grounds of Appeal which were due to be the subject of argument before the Court, commencing on 2nd November 2009.

Lockerbie bomber puts appeal online

Abdel Basset al-Megrahi, the only person convicted of the 1988 Lockerbie bombing, has posted documents online which he believes will help clear his name.

The 57-year-old Libyan, who is dying of prostate cancer, released information on Friday which he hopes will "persuade the public" of his innocence.

Al-Megrahi returned to his hometown in August this year after being released from a Scottish prison on compassionate grounds.

He said in a statement: "I have returned to Tripoli with my unjust conviction still in place."

"As a result of the abandonment of my appeal, I have been deprived of the opportunity to clear my name through the formal appeal process.

"I have vowed to continue my attempts to clear my name. I will do everything in my power to persuade the public, and in particular the Scottish public, of my innocence," he said.

Al-Megrahi, who is in hospital in Tripoli, Libya's capital, had been serving a 27-year-sentence for planting a bomb on Pan Am Flight 103, which killed 270 people when it exploded over the Scottish town of Lockerbie in 1988.

He abandoned his appeal against his conviction earlier this year, paving the way for his release.

But the decision made by Kenny MacAskill, the Scottish justice secretary, sparked anger in Britain and the US from officials and relatives of victims, who say he should have remained behind bars.

The former Libyan intelligence agent, who was sentence by a specially convened Scottish Court in The Netherlands in 2001, has always proclaimed his innocence.

His Scottish lawyers also argued he was the victim of a miscarriage of justice.

The legal argument released online consists of the written grounds of appeal submitted to Scotland's High Court this year.

In the papers, his lawyers argued that al-Megrahi's conviction relied on sketchy eyewitness testimony and several "leaps of faith".

I also heard Elish Angiolini is not happy with this release, but then again she wouldn't be would she.

The report released by Megrahi from Tim Valentine shows conclusively I did not get a fair hearing from SCCRC.

Not only did they not ask him for a report into my case but they took Robin Johnston off my case Put him onto Megrahi's telling me he could no longer take my case on due to a large scale investigation within SCCRC.

What he never told me was my case did not merit a Senior Legal Officer perhaps and that he was abandoning mine to take on the much bigger Lockerbie case.

Tim Valentine now supports me after me having to ask and begg him to do a Pro-Bono report for me but my point is quite clear the only evidence against me was 2 Identifications yet No Experts were ever consulted for opinions.

In Megrahi Gauci has never fully Identified Megrahi actually Initially Identifying Abu Talb and SCCRC jump to ask Tim Valentine right away for a report on Gauci's evidence, and they (SCCRC) have the cheek to claim every case receives the same very high standard of probity.

This Guff has also been reiterated by Kenny MacAskill and the Justice Committee.

Tim Valentine's report for Megrahi can be seen here:

There are other reports from other experts on Megrahi's site worthy of a read also
