Belated 'honesty' backfires...

It appears that honesty may not have been the best policy for this Police Officer.
I suspect that he only 'came clean' about his past cos he was going to be found out anyway..

'Police Officer loses job for crime committed when teen'

Is this the 'tip of the iceberg'?

Anyone interested in this article is asked to view my petition 'convicted police officers' which is still open at the PPC at Holyrood
and post comments on this forum.
I will try to fairly reflect all YOUR opinions in future responses to the PPC.
In the SNP's government's pre-election bid to ensure 1,000 'new' beat police officers
can we really be sure that the Scottish Police Forces carried out thorough security/background checks ??
Is it possible that others could have slipped through the net?
I do not have blinding faith in the Police Services ability to self-govern/regulate and I'm sure others must share my concerns.
Thank you for taking the time to read this item.

Gustav51. I am also very concerned at the self regulation within the Scottish Police forces. Surely it should be an independent body who look at complaints and other issues concerning suspected wrong doing by police officers . The same should be in place for suspected foul play by procurator fiscals etc. Regards Tom Shielding.

Thanks Tom

I have raised issues regarding the autonomy of Chief Constables and the response from government bodies is always that 'the government does not interfere with Policing Policies and Chief Constables have statutory powers to deal with all aspects of policing within their Force area'

Joint Police Boards appoint Chief Constables and if you wish to complain about a Chief Constable you must write to the Convener of the appropriate JPB.

From past experience I have found that Joint Police Boards 'suck up ' to their Force areas Chiefs and never take action to have them removed- with the exception of Chief Cons. Ian Oliver of Grampian Police some years ago-
the preset incumbent Colin McKerracher has a shocking track record in respect of the number of criminally convicted Police Officers within his force but he is seemingly NEVER challenged over this.

If you pardon the expression this allows the government a 'cop out' and basically anyone in office does not have 'the balls' to stand up to errant Chief Constables, probably through fear of reprisals.
Unfortunately we do live in a self-preservation society for better or worse.
