First of all I wish Big Wullie all the best with his attempts to make the Justice Minister listen... and also for some good to come out of Shirleys' fingerprint inquiry.
As we are all too well aware the Scottish Legal Justice system is riddled with miscarriages of justice. It is endemic.
Shirley was and, in many respects, will always be one such victim.
Her colleagues, and others, conspired, colluded and told lies under oath or affirmation with devastating consequences.
Other honest, hard working and dedicated officers have been victimised and forced to leave their jobs.
Why do Chief Constables condone convicted police officers serving in THEIR forces? They should not be tolerated.
Descartes suggests that given time it only takes one 'bad apple' to contaminate the whole barrel. A strong argument from which other comparisons can be made.
Police officers with criminal convictions and therefore criminal tendencies are 'bad apples' which should be removed.
There is a strong public misconception that Police officers 'look after their own.' This may apply to the higher ranks however in general not to rank and file officers.
