Iain and Michael,

I have just finished your book and want to offer you my praise not only for being able to convey the whole shameful debacle in such easy to understand language, but also for your efforts taking on the establishment over the last decade.
I would urge anyone who has not read the book to do so. I will certainly be letting others know to get a copy to read!
It answers so many questions but unfortunately asks even more! Will we ever get to the truth? I am thinking not, however there may still be some twists when the Asbury Trial/Settlement comes along.
It is clear certain individuals have to maintain their stances, however wrong, as to now admit any errors would certainly lead to action being taken against them. I hope the Asbury episode may give us more answers after all it is likely the Scottish Taxpayer is going to have to pay out again for incompetence by the Experts concerned. Of course it wasn’t just the same four Experts concerned, with two different experts making the original identification of Marion Ross’s print, so down the line we can expect further gagging orders and redundancies to come along I imagine. Not to mention others who went and gave evidence to Justice 1 agreeing with the “identification.” Scotland can have no confidence in the Fingerprint Service till it is cleansed from within of all those individuals, otherwise future cases may well be jeopardised and those guilty of crimes being allowed to walk free.
And more importantly only when someone stands up to be counted and pressure be put on individuals to reopen the case, can Marion Ross finally be given justice!
Again I pass on my praise to you both. You are to be respected and commended!

Moderators Note: This posting is just one of the many e-mail and phone messages received by the family over the past week. They have been greatly appreciated. We hope to hear further reader's comments about the book over the coming weeks.

This posting has been moderated to protect the author's identity.

Since reading the article in my newspaper the other day, I felt I had to
send warm hugs to you [and your wonderful father].

What stamina and courage you both have; and what a horrendous nightmare for you to have experienced.

I am so sorry for the toll it is taking from your lives - I wish there was something I could do to help.

Once again this is just simply sending my best wishes.

Reader, Scotland

A most gripping account of an unbelievable travesty of justice - a black moment for Scotland and its institutions as we are given a peek behind their closed doors - a rare event in a statist society. The book is very well written and is a fine balance between a concise chronological presentation of the events and the emotive consequences for yourself and Shirley. I was frequently brought to tears and more often to helpless rage. This should never happen but it has and it will again as long as Scotland's politicians and its institutions are not directly answerable to the people, not just once every four years, but at all times.

To you and Shirley I convey my thanks for making such prodigious sacrifices and for exhibiting so much courage in the face of so much state tyranny. What you both did may have seemed very personal at the time, but the consequences of your actions are universal for you have shown that two people with very limited resources and right on their side can take on the state and its institutions and win a major victory. If only more people would show such courage we might on day see a citizens democracy replace party political tyranny's.

Kind regards,

Dennis MacLeod

Dear Ms Mckie

I have been preliminarily following your case for the last decade. However it was not until I bought your recently published book that I was aware of the massive injustice caused to yourself.

Anger is not the word to describe my reaction. It is clear to me that McConnell, Wallace Jamison and Boyd all have the morals of a praying mantis. More interested in defending the indefensible than getting to the truth.

If there is anything I can do to assist your campaign for a full independent enquiry please just say and I will do all I can.

I am not a rich man or a university professor but I know an injustice when I see it.

If it could happen to you is could happen to anyone.

May I conclude by saluting you heroism and stating that the whole of Scotland is on your side?

Iain

I just wanted to say what a pleasure it was to meet you and Mairi at
the Wigtown Book festival a couple of weeks ago. I thought {like so
many others} that I had a fair grasp of what Shirley had gone through.
But listening to your talk with Mike and then reading your book -
which is superb by the way - made me realise how little I really did
know... and how much you and your family, not least Shirley, have had
to endure over the past decade. Please pass on my regards and best
wishes to Shirley.

I hope that we will meet up again sometime - but I just wanted to say
how refreshing it was to meet such honest, upright and decent people as
you and Mairi. Lesser people would have crumbled. You are a credit to
your family and to the wider cause of truth and justice.

Yours aye

Scotland

Shirley & Iain

It appears to me that the whole reason this forum was set up has been forgotten with the last post on this topic being May 18th 2007.
I must apologise for being so caught up on other issues i have yet to comment here.
I have read the book and can like so many others only conclude they simply wanted rid of Shirley at all costs.
Boy what a mistake they made by forgetting about the Dad and what a remarkable man.
As so many readers before me have said, Will we ever get the full enquiry needed to restore faith in the Scottish public again, this has gone for good i am afraid.
As rebus pointed out: too many lies and to backtrack now would lead to perjury charges though in my opinion these should have been laid right after Shirley was found not guilty.
I hope Shirley is now getting on with her life and pray that some day she will be able to look back and laugh at it all maybe even pity the ones who betrayed her and her dad and wrongly persecuted her.

Not only were they willing to swear her life away but they have continued their deceit even in the face of compelling evidence from so many independent experts like Pat Wertheim etc etc, Experts with a bit of integrity.

I would urge Shirley to take some respite knowing that these experts cannot any longer frame anyone the way they did with her, They are all sacked or moved to other jobs it would seem. Even the ones from Lothian and Borders have been sacked.

Still waiting on the asbury conclusion (Compensation) which will throw another spanner in the works for them, Can't wait.

Keep the chin up both of you

Best Wishes

Wullie

The Enquiry Begins

In todays press the announcement of the remit is to start with the premise that Shirley Mckie was Innocent and wrongly accused of leaving her fingerprint at this murder scene.
Iain McKie also said today he wanted justice for the Ross Family, Remember this was the other case of wrongly accused of leaving a fingerprint, where David Asbury was eventually Aquitted having been found guilty of murder.
Will the authorities now re-open this enquiry ?

My thoughts and wishes are with the Ross Family too in this uncertain time.

Best wishes though go to Iain who has fought tirelessly for this enquiry and quite honestly without him there would be no enquiry and matters would just have been swept under the carpet like our last Government allowed to happen.

Praise also to Alex Neil and Mike Russell who i believe will leave no stones unturned in their fight for the McKie's and who without their dedication also there would be no enquiry.
If it was up to Bill Aitken it would all be forgotten because his attitude judging by his comments is : Because Shirley has been compensated we should move on.
He clearly has not interest in Justice and the wider issues involved in this case.
Remember 171 experts worldwide support Shirley yet this crew at SCRO still seek to deny any wrongdoing.
Lessons must be learned from this case Mr Aitken.

Interestingly the Scotsman has not allowed any comment on their story so not worth the link

Iain after having the book since it came out could you clear some things up?

I Quote "In Addition A Police Informer Had Told D.C.I Heath that there was some gossip in the criminal fraternity in Kilmarnock about a certain Patrick Docherty."

There was a certain Police informant that I know of and still know of that could of had a grudge against Patrick Docherty who girlfriend stayed across the road from Annanhill Park at the said time.

I Quote: "What were the chances of two different teams of psychopaths roaming around Kilmarnock"

Could You explain the meaning of two  that where capable of the crimes as stated. [teams] please.

Is it not possible that Patrick Docherty had enemies in the criminal world that wanted him taken out  i.e prison /to protect their police informers and that Brendan Dixon was a lamb to the slaughter because of informants grudges towards Docherty. yes Patrick Docherty is no angel as i see it, as i have seen his record, But does that make a killer?

I know Mrs Ross's extended family as I worked with the same firm as him. They dug up his garden, they took every piece of clothes away from him and his wife.

I think there is a link between the two cases but I don't think it involves Patrick Docherty. also the person who went to the papers i know of and he is also a police informant.{ HOPE HE LIKED HIS NEW CLOTHES] and Willie. Also i have a feeling about that.

could you break your source on Willie please.
before he moves. in private of course so we know who we are talking about.

Thanks.

Kevin.
