Ditto re Iain's "no punches" letter in the Herald, Peter.
It remains to be seen whether Messrs Salmond and MacAskill are truly listening to us and will initiate the inquiries and radical reforms you mention and we all seek. Not holding breath this end.
Spotted Dr Hans Köchler's Press Release on Iain's front page too. Now, there is a man who knows what needs to be done over the Lockerbie travesty / shambles ... for the Lockerbie families.

I'm sure that Dr Hans Köchler and the UN are aware there are a great many calls from Scots themselves for inquiries into injustice on a whole range of issues - indicating there is indeed, and has been for some time, a problem in Scotland where lack of accountability, transparency & honesty has played into the hands of agencies, public bodies & the legal system itself, which all either refuse to deal with issues brought to them or purposely prejudice complaints & cases to protect the guilty.
Lockerbie is but a symptom of such a culture of injustice as we have in Scotland, and in effect, one can't really be resolved without resolving the nature of the beast ...
It may be helpful for the voice of the UN to be added to such a call for a fully independent & wide ranging inquiry into the general level of injustice in Scotland, so we can go forward after healing & dealing with the sins of the past. |

The Scotsman article by Professor Robert Black points the way forward for a major independent review of Scotland's criminal justice system. I have responded in today's letter columns.

The Professor, using Lockerbie as an example, identifies the very same subterfuge employed by the Lord Advocate and Crown Office that has been highlighted in this and other forums.
The refusal or cover-up of documentary evidence, failure to identify or interview witnesses and the non-disclosure of vital evidence are all too well known to those fighting injustice in Scotland. |

Some authorities believe that freeing the nurses is part of a process that will lead to Mr Megrahi being sent home. Whether to serve his sentence or as a free man remains to be seen but return he will.
There will be no re-trial given the revelations that would inevitably follow.
How deep this 'conspiracy' goes is open for debate.
Behind these deals is a disreputable system that is long overdue for review and change. |

The Sunday Post front page carries a call from MSP Alex Neil for independent judges from outside of Scotland to assist with the Megrahi appeal.
http://www.dcthomson.co.uk/mags/post/news1.htm
I support this given the international nature of the Lockerbie outrage and the continued failure of our justice system to handle the affair with openness. |
