Hi Angeline
At 14.44 today I got the same response from Jane Todd:
Dear Mr Beck
Thankyou for your enquiry, which we have forwarded to our Fitness to Practise directorate.
Jane Todd.
All told her response is far better than the Governor's who cannot answer my plea for an independent doctor to examine Mr Johnston.
Lets see if the wheels kick in once they contact Mr Gunn at HMP Glenochil.
Wonder how many others have contacted the GMC ?
Best Wishes
Wullie

Wullie, I don't know if it's just my email, which I have constant problems with, but I rarely get replies to the emails I send in relation to appeals on this site. In fact, I was surprised to get the response from Jane Todd.
Does anyone else have the same problem, or is it time for me to change IP (again!) _________________ As long as one heart still holds on, then hope will never really be gone |

I asked The Governor of HMP Glenochil if it was OK for an independent Doctor to assess Mr Johnston.
His reply is as follows:
| Quote: | Mr Beck
There is no scope for this – our system in Scotland is we contract out our Medical Service (not our Health care) – the company MEDACS supply our MO –while there is a regular Doctor equally there are other Doctors who come in and out an d offer second opinions
The background is our MO reviewed all our prisoners who were on medication and made various changes –some were happy some were unhappy as you would expect –there is no agenda at work here other than what should be routine clinical assessment –this would apply to you and me in respect of our own clinical treatment
Hope this helps

Wonder how he would feel if someone all of a sudden took him off medication his own Doctor says he will need for the rest of his life ? _________________ http://justiceforwulliebeck.webs.com/index.htm

Is this man just being deliberately obtuse? The same would happen with you and me? Right!
We'd be free to approach any other medical practitioner for another opinion, and, failing that, to source our own medication privately.
It's hardly reasonable to compare the two situations - Mr Johnston can't log onto the internet and buy his painkllers there, for goodness sake. we put people in prison, we have an absolute duty to ensure they are properly cared for. _________________ As long as one heart still holds on, then hope will never really be gone |

The latest e-mail from the GMC confirms for me that the prison service doctors are Immune and answerable to No-One.

Dear Mr Beck
Thank you for your email.
We have carefully considered the information you provided and understand your reasons for writing to us. However, we have decided that this is not a matter that justifies action under our procedures.
Concerns about the way in which the Scottish Prison Service runs healthcare services for prisoners should be raised directly with the Prison Service itself.
Yours Sincerely
Tariq Masood
Investigation Officer

Email: tmasood@gmc-uk.org
Mr Masood obviously finds it difficult to understand we have asked the Governor first to review this case without any satisfaction.
So Mr Masood, what happens next and what recourse does Mr Johnston have once the Governor refuses to take action against his dubious Doctors _________________ http://justiceforwulliebeck.webs.com/index.htm

Standards for the Health Care of Prisoners,
http://www.sps.gov.uk/multimediag...8-F280-4895-A772-E77CF4E4CD60.pdf
Dr Andrew Fraser was appointed as Director of Health and Care in April 2006.
The job of the Directorate is to guide and ensure good quality care and highly professional caring staff meets the needs of prisoners and prisons. Although caring roles are straightforward to identify in chaplains, social workers and health care staff etc, the task of Health and Care is one for all SPS staff and all activities. Partnership is fundamental to success in delivering care and contributing to the challenge for each prisoner in benefiting from their prison experience and preparing them for release. The Directorate staff will work with every part of the SPS, community-based and voluntary sector organisations, to achieve better support, care and rehabilitation of offenders, and contribute towards reducing re-offending.
Maybe Dr Andrew Fraser is one to write to ?
