As with Freethekillie2 above,
Our sentiments and thoughts are with the Family of Kenny Richey.
How many appeals must one endure? Before being released.
With the great relationship our country has with America one would have thought that there would have been some kind of intervention from our past Governments.
Since he is Scottish I believe Alex Salmond should write to America, Expressing his concerns over this dodgy case.
Any lack of involvement can only be seen as pure Ignorance. |

Freethekillie2 you are so right!!!!
"ALSO ALEX SALMOND LISTEN THIS MAN IS A SCOTS NATIONAL HELP HIM , AND SHOW THE PEOPLE OF SCOTLAND THAT YOU CARE ABOUT MISCARRAIGES OF JUSTICE NOT JUST HERE BUT WHERE EVER A SCOTTISH NATIONAL IS IN PRISON FOR A CRIME THEY DID NOT COMMIT. "
To be a great leader you must have the people’s trust and you must protect and take care of the people, through earning their respect.
Open Your Eyes, take a fresh breath of the winds from the Highlands, look at the beautiful landscapes and think of the reason you were elected.
You owe your loyalty to the people of Scotland Think about ALL the "Heroes"
People who are working to get the truth, Justice and closure … the families, relatives and friends who have dedicated their lives to get the truth, to help, to support, to care.
THEY ARE TRULY A GREAT ASSET TO YOUR COUNTRY.
Please Mr Salmond and Mr MacAskill help them to:
Free those who are put to jail NOT GUILTY for the crimes they are convicted for.
Give families the help they need to get their cases properly investigated.
Give the children a safe country to grow up in and without child abuse.
Please help those in pain who are suffering in silence, those who do not have any strength to shout for help, or even ask God for help in silence.
Give the local police more financial resources so that they can do their jobs properly.
And please help Annie’s family to get the truth about their beautiful daughter and my best friend.
Even if we are NOT Scottish we truly love the beautiful country and the caring and loving people who are trying to help us get the truth.
You must DO something to help the suffering people!!
HELP the families, relatives and friends , they are in great pain; people are crying, men and woman and children are suffering, families are devastated, it is not human to live like this.....We ALL need to get closure.
Every night when I light a candle for Annie , I light another one for ALL of YOU and you are included in my prayers;
I pray that the TRUTH will come out and JUSTICE will finally be SEEN to be DONE. |

I concur with the sentiments expressed for Kenny and others by F t K 2, Big Wullie and Angel above.
I still have letters from the mid-1990s and beyond in my files to this day from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office about Kenny’s case. The usual fob-offs from underlings instructed what to say by their political masters at the time.
It is always the way that politicians will put themselves first and foremost and tow the party line for the sake of their self-serving careers and political ambition. Innocent individuals (Scots or otherwise) languishing and rotting away on death row in the Good ol’ U. S. of A or in our Scottish prisons (as a result of miscarriages of Scottish “Justice”) will languish and rot away further for the sake of that political ambition.
Last week Alex Salmond, Scotland’s esteemed First Minister, was shouting from the rooftops (as usual) about the injustice of Scotland’s second-rate broadcasting service. “A commission is what’s called for folks and I’m setting one up straight away” – or words to that effect. I would respect the man a little (sorry, but no fawning or deference from me I’m afraid … I prefer not to dance and sleep with the devil) if the same (wholly independent, fair and just) commission had been urgently put in place to look at all the cases highlighted on this forum and injustices in Scotland (past and present) generally, but that will never happen – sorry to be that Harbinger of Doom and Gloom today, but it's merely an injection of fact and realism. The sins of the past will not be highlighted and exposed under this SNP “Government” and injustices will remain swept under their dirty carpet. They did leave Elish Angiolini in post as Scotland’s Lord Advocate did they not?
It is usually said that a nation and government should be judged by the way it treats its people and a man should be judged by his (good and honest) deeds and actions.
Still waiting Messrs Salmond and MacAskill for you to treat Scotland’s people fairly, justly, humanely, compassionately…
And for those good and honest deeds and actions.

Bail possible as Scot is taken off death row after 20 yearsDAVID LEASK August 27
)A Scot jailed for a murder he says he did not commit is off death row.
Kenny Richey, 43, was yesterday told he will be moved out of the American prison where he has awaited execution for 20 years.
Richey was found guilty of starting a fire that killed a two-year-old girl in 1986 but his conviction was overturned earlier this month. Prosecutors in Ohio say they will not challenge that decision, paving the way for retrial and possible bail for Mr Richey.

Brian Laliberte, Ohio deputy first assistant attorney general, was yesterday reported as saying: "Mr Richey will be moved off death row and taken back to the Putnum county jail. He will now be able to apply for bail, although that will be a matter for his lawyer and the courts."
Mr Richey, whose mother was Scottish and father American, was sentenced to death on January 27, 1987, after he was convicted of starting a fire in which Cynthia Collins died in 1986, allegedly because his estranged former girlfriend and her new lover - supposedly the intended targets - lived in the flat beneath. Protesting his innocence, Mr Richey refused a plea bargain which would have led to an 11-year sentence for arson and manslaughter. His death sentence was overturned for a second time on August 10.
Mr Richey was 18 when he left his mother's home in Edinburgh to live with his American father in Ohio.
Mr Richey's mother, Eileen, speaking from her home in Edinburgh, said: "I am absolutely delighted. But I have been here so many times before I just hope it is for real this time. I will believe it fully when I see Kenny walking off the plane at Edinburgh Airport."
Mr Richey's ex-fiancee Karen Torley said: "It is great news that Kenny is going to get his day in court at last.
"This is what the campaign has been all about all these years and what he has wanted."
good luck kenny, you will have your day in court to prove your innocence. |

US retrial for Scot on death row
BBC News Monday 27th August 2007
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/edinburgh_and_east/6965143.stm
A Scottish man who has spent more than 20 years on death row in the US is to face a retrial after his conviction was overturned for a second time.
Kenny Richey was sentenced to death in 1987 after he was convicted of starting a fire which killed a two-year old girl in Ohio.
The 43-year-old has always protested his innocence.
Prosecutors are not appealing against the overturning of the sentence. Richey will now face a retrial within 90 days.
Until then it is expected he will be transferred to an ordinary county jail and could apply for bail until the trial begins within 90 days.
"We have already been preparing for retrial and we will be ready to bring a final end to this 21-year miscarriage of justice" Ken Parsigian, Richey's lawyer
The legal team representing the former US Marine, originally from Edinburgh, said they welcomed the news and that they had been preparing for a retrial for two decades.
The Sixth Circuit Federal Court of Appeal in Cincinnati overturned Richey's death sentence for a second time on 10 August.
State prosecutors could have gone to the US Supreme Court to try to have that decision overturned, but instead decided to stage a new trial.
Reprieve, which fights for prisoners on death row, welcomed the move.
Fatal blaze
Legal director Clive Stafford Smith, who has assisted Richey's case for almost two decades, said: "This is great news, though it has been a long time coming for Kenny.
"Once the prosecution sit down and start to prepare their case for trial, they will realise that they don't have one.
"The only decent thing to do here is drop the charges and send Kenny home to Scotland."
Richey was 18 when he left his mother's home in Edinburgh to live with his American father in Ohio, where he joined the US Marines.
In July 1986 he was arrested for the murder of two-year-old Cynthia Collins, who died in a fire at her mother's apartment.
The prosecution claimed he started the fire because his estranged former girlfriend and her new lover - supposedly the intended targets - lived in the flat beneath.
Richey's lawyer Ken Parsigian said: "Kenny has always wanted a chance to prove his innocence and a new trial will give it to him.
"This time, though, he will have quality representation and the prosecution will face huge problems, not least the fact that we have decimated their scientific case that the fire was arson.
"We have already been preparing for retrial and we will be ready to bring a final end to this 21-year miscarriage of justice."
Amnesty International Scotland director John Watson said: "Whilst Kenny's original trial can be held up as a model of shoddy justice, the eyes of the world will be on this new case, which must be seen to meet the most stringent standards."
