I wish I could figure out why the people elected to defend truth and justice are more interested in tidying up the figures in the rows and columns in police reports and court records than they are in actually searching for and defending truth and justice. Do these government officials and bureaucrats undergo some type of brain transformation after they are elected or appointed? Do the ethics neurons get zapped with some type of electrical probes? Is some kind of drug administered to them to kill their sense of right and wrong? Their performance in office bears little resemblence to the promises they make before they get their positions. I do not know the answer, but I do know the problem is not unique to Scotland.

Mistakes are indeed made and we should be able to deal with those but Stuart's case wasn't about mistakes, it was about corruption. Different situation altogether. Worryingly it is becoming the norm in the Scottish Justice System.

Tweed, I do wish the Herald would filter the rubbish from these sites so that people like you could not get loose on them and your contributions could go straight to the bin. This article isn't about party-politics and you are a moron.

To Allan McLeod and all the others fighting against the indifference and inaction of Salmond and MacAskill to your pleas for help: I truly wish you all well. But don't hold your breath for their compassion and action - it won't be forthcoming from these men i'm afraid.

Thank you for your kind and enlightening words.

I agree with you entirely that Stuart's case was mired in corruption and not mistakes.

However, i would take issue with your assertion that this case isn't about party-politics. The Scottish Crown office, whose Lord Advocate is appointed by politicians, was ultimately responsible for this most grotesque miscarriage of justice, which was to ultimately destroy and end Stuart's life prematurely.

There are now calls for an FAI into Stuart's death, which will ultimately lie at the door of Elish Angiolini, who was reappointed by Salmond and MacAskill in May - all three, you will probably find, will not want that FAI to go ahead, as with so many others they have been asked to initiate over the past 6 months since they were elected into power.

So, to say that this is nothing to do with politics is showing a naivety in the extreme.

I have nothing but sadness and anger in my heart for what was allowed to happen to Stuart, who I campaigned for many years ago - and I have also donated something to MOJO in his memory (ordinarily i wouldn't mention my charitable donations, but i do so in this instance to show how strongly i feel about his untimely passing). Did you?

The real “morons” in this case were the evil and wicked swine who fitted Stuart up, brutalized him over many years and destroyed his life in the process - and all those who knew that he was framed, but did NOTHING to help him … including many politicos and members of the Scottish Crown office. Let’s see if that moronic, evil and wicked behaviour can now cease at the doors of Salmond, MacAskill and Angiolini in the coming weeks, shall we?

Stuart Gair - Guardian Obituary

In Glen Ochil prison, he was befriended by Dr Jim MacGregor, who was a GP in Alloa and part-time medical officer at the prison. MacGregor studied the papers, concluded that it was "a shocking case of corruption" and helped to mobilise a growing campaign.

I was privileged to attend Stuart's funeral yesterday in Glasgow.

I had never met him but after hearing from those who had it is clear this was my loss.

While the part the State played in his death and his own shortcomings were made crystal clear my overwhelming emotion was one of sadness.

Stuart’s story is a common one of someone up against it from birth who despite his humanity and talent was never allowed to escape from his past and when the power of the State had him in its grasp there was no-where for him to go.

Released from prison for a crime he did not commit he was cast adrift emotionally and psychologically and struggled to cope.

Thanks to the support of those who loved and believed in him he fought back only to be cruelly struck down at the very time that fate appeared to have turned in his favour.

Noticeably no-one from the justice system that had so failed him was there to mourn his passing.

I suggest that it is through seeking to change this system that we can best honour the memory of Stuart Gair.

My Wife and I attended the Funeral yesterday of Stuart Gair (I could have screamed) My eyes filled and the only thoughts in my mind was how our current system had let this man down very badly.
I will do my best to make sure he has not died in vain and that his name will always be with us.
Could our Government in his name maybe now set up a sanctuary for others that find themselves caught up in this corrupt system or will they wait till more follow?
What we can do is petition our MSPs asking for the Stuart Gair Memorial Sanctuary for Innocent victims of Miscarriages.
As Iain Pointed out there was no-one from our Judicial System present yesterday confirming their stance, High time they were held to account.
