On the Luke Mitchell thread I was asked the following question.
Are we not permitted to use Condom Man's real name in this debate?
I tend to remove ‘real names’ from the debate although they will at times slip through.
Contributors need to realise that they are not immune from civil action should they defame any named person specifically.
It is to be hoped that contributors can back up their allegations and are not using the forum as a gratuitous way of getting at named individuals.
It is open to aggrieved parties to petition the court for me to reveal the source of individual contributions if I have this information. Individual contributions have to be carefully researched and accurate.
Those suffering injustice have had to endure years of wrongful accusation. It is hardly justice for any contributors to make such accusations against anyone who is not in a position to defend themselves.
The general advice I would give is to avoid direct accusations against any named individual.

I could not agree more with the need for caution over making direct accusations towards various named individuals without due diligence being carried out first.
In the pursuit of truth and justice we can all become very frustrated, distressed and angry and these natural human emotions often cloud our judgement and rational thinking.
Mr McKie's approach and remarks are the right way forward and should be adhered to at all times.
Thank you for setting up this forum 4 years ago Mr McKie. But there are two sadnesses to this as I now see it. Firstly, it took your own dreadful experiences with the Scottish justice system to feel the great need for such a forum in the first place. And, secondly, I do not think that any of the many miscarriages and injustices highlighted here over the past 4 years have yet been properly resolved.
A most sad and damning indictment of Scotland's justice system - and, I certainly feel, a very poor reflection on those who have governed over us from Holyrood and St Andrew's House over the past 4 years.
