Taken from Daily Record  Thursday 26 March 2009.

The police's prompt reaction to the Goodwin vandalism has angered other Edinburgh crime victims.

Fitness instructor Gillian Welch said officers took more than six hours to act after 14 cars in her street were damaged.

Police were at Goodwin's home within minutes of the attack being reported.

Mum-of-three Gillian,46, said she spoke to police twice before cops came to investigate the wrecking spree in her street in Wester Hailes, Edinburgh.

She said that they did not closely examine the damaged cars or take fingerprints.
Gillian said, "The type of treatment given to Sir Fred would never be given to ordinary people.
"Fourteen cars in our street were vandalised including mine and my daughters.

"I reported it around 7am. The police came out that afternoon.
"We've never heard any more.
"We have jobs to go to and were left stranded without our cars that day"

Wouldnt it be great if we all got the same treatment?

I feel strongly that the idiots who Damaged Sir Freds house and car are just that, Idiots.  No matter what people think he has done vandalism is not the answer. The minute we give way to people who feel they have the right to take the law into their own hands then law and order is finished.

The law should deal with Sir Fred, I can even understand the frustration people must feel because the law is not/cannot find a way of dealing with him.  If people feel strongly then get out and demonstrate peacefully, start an organisation, write letters, do whatever is lawful to put your point over.

BUT this woman is right it should not matter who you are or which area you come from police should respond in the order of the crimes committed.

I do understand that we are short of police officers but a crime is a crime. We hear a lot about crimes and victims waiting until a police officer can be spared from the previous crime to attend but this should be done in strict order if that is the problem.

I agree totally Lydia.  This kind of "campaign" does not do anything any good.

Everyone should be treated equally under the law too

On that same subject, equality in the Law I have just written to Kenny MacAskill on the subject of his new law.  He wants special treatment for people who are disabled, Lesbian, Gay etc, well I am a disabled person and I feel that this law is ridiculous.

If a crime has been committed against a person then it should not matter your sexual orientation your race or religeon or whether you are disabled no person should be more equal than another.  The crime has been committed and it should be dealt with according to the severity of the crime.  We should not need extra legislation.

My point in my letter is that our country is going equality mad and not achieving real equality when special groups are placed in a higher order according to how active is the group that campaigns for them.

What is the general view on this

I agree with you Lydia.

I think many people who are disabled, gay or whatever, would be offended and angered by this.  and it would also cause anger amongst others if they see someone getting "preferential" treatment.

We should all be treated equally in this country. There is too much political correctness going mad too.

I do not believe for one minute that Sir Fred Goodwin would ever get this kind of treatment from The Police.

It clearly shows the divide.

I do not agree with the idiots that have smashed the windows and would say they have a right to be heard but this is not the way to do it.

There are people like S------ Gas and S------ Power who are taking more money from us and ripping us off more than Sir Fred.

Wullie you are so right, that poor woman, surely the council and the police should work to help her.

I do know of another situation not unlike this and this is a friend of mine.

She lives in mussel-burgh and for nine years has fought the fact that a drug dealer is living next door to her.  In a two door stair. She owns her house he is a council tenant. The neighbors around her have also complained bitterly.

She is in her sixties and must endure these people buzzing her entry system at all hours of the night, knives and other weapons are regularly used and it is not unusual to have a trail of blood in the stair.

Shouting up at the window day and night a vicious dog she is terrified to pass, and all the other noise and threats that go with a drug dealer.

It seems the council and police are able to do nothing.  I have been with her at many meetings and always they make promises but nothing ever happens.
