Like the Lockerbie trial, I think the Howes should be tried in Scotland.

Was not the reason Megrahi was tried in Scotlnad because the crime had been committed on Scottish Soil ?

The loony Sheriff who likes Pink is a disgrace of an excuse of any form of humanity.

He should be removed from office with immediate effect.

We have seen lots of films like this but never Really believed they actually happened.

$43 Million in claims against this one man seems perverse.

Makes our Jails seem like the Ritz.

Wonder if they could claim for slopping out ?

I noticed in the American article that Pat posted the claim that they knowingly supplied methamphetamine labs. Maybe it's just me, but I find it sort of hard to believe that someone running such a lab would freely acknowledge that's what they were doing.

That aside, I'm with most of the others here - firstly, no crime was committed here or, apparently, in the US, secondly, we can't go extraditing people without a scrap of evidence- if the American authorities genuinely have evidence, wouldn't it seem right that they disclose that evidence to UK authorities, to back up their demand for extradition?

I spoke with Brian and apparently the case here in UK is a civil one. They are fighting against the extradition but if the courts decide that they can be extradited, which is looking likely right now, then they will be handed over to the US authorities. These people are called Fugitives in US. Once on US soil the case will become a criminal case. And they will not take kindly to them trying to "escape justice" by appealling the extradition either.

They have never been charged, they don't even know what the so called evidence is because all US has to do is say the word "conspiracy" and they can ask for an extradition order.

An entire family is about to be destroyed for something that is not a crime in this country.

Even if they are guilty of some crime, they should be tried in this country.
Seems to me there is an overkill on punishment here.
They have lost their business, ALL their belongings were removed, including all the family photo's. They will lose their home, their children will go into care and possibly adopted. They could be sent to US for God knows how many years and fined a huge amount to boot.

They were arrested and held under US laws. Held in Scottish prisons for 214 days and still not charged And Scotland is paying for all of this. Not America.

I am disgusted by what is happening.

We really need people to email, Fax, write and telephone Alex Salmond, The First Minister of Scotland and The Justice Minister, Kenny MacAskill MSP regarding the Howes Family.

Brian and Kerry Howes face being extradited to US from Scotland when they have NOT committed a crime in Scotland. This couple have 4 children and another baby is due any day now. ALL these children will be taken into care and probably adopted if these people are extradited for something that is NOT A CRIME IN SCOTLAND OR IN US. The children will suffer terribly since they have no other family to look after them if their parents are sent to Arizona.

There also seems to be a punishment overkill in this case. Not only do they lose their business, their home, their children, get no support from UK courts, sent off to Arizona, which BTW is a nasty State, and face 20 years in jail plus a huge fine of $250,000.
Scotland should not be taking part in this at all.

Brian and Kerry Howes new baby arrived at home this morning. Baby cassidy was born at 9am and weighs 8lbs 4 1/2 oz.

Baby is beautiful and both mother and baby are doing well.

Please write to Mr MacAskill and also Mr Salmond to help keep this family together.

Well done Cardinal, Wish there were more like you in Scotland willing to stand up to these barbaric American ways.

It beggars belief that no crime has been committed yet they want to extradite this whole family who the authorities here were very well aware of.

They haven't even committed a crime by American standards never mind UK ones, as the chemicals were not banned in America either.

Hopefully common sense will prevail and Mr MacAskill will come to his senses on this case.

I still believe what is happening is wrong. Scotland should not be handing UK citizens over to the US like this. It could have serious consequences for many others who do not have other issues in the background.

I also believe that the childrens human rights are not being taken into consideration. They cannot even get a lawyer to help defend their rights.
They at least need their mother to be staying with them.
