Dear Mr MacAskill

We now request that you also show in the interests of justice, compassion to the family of Kevin Mcleod who was murdered in 1997 and disclose to his parents in Wick whether a certain prisoner was on weekend home release at the time of Kevin's horrific death. - Surely after the Megrahi episode, this wont be to much to ask for by a still grieving family fighting for truth and justice.

While I can well understand the sentiments expressed in the open letter it seems to feed into the hypocrisy of the whole Lockerbie affair.

Those to whom it is addressed, i.e. the leaders of the Labour, Conservative , Liberal and other parties, are as guilty as anyone within the SNP  of burying their heads in the sand whenever Lockerbie or the failings of the Scottish justice system are mentioned.

It should be noted for instance that the Labour administration and their Liberal colleagues did everything they could to stop the present Fingerprint Inquiry and had it not been for the heroic efforts of individual members of the SNP and Liberal parties like Mike Russell, Alex Neil and Mike Pringle the truth would still be hidden.

Only yesterday Labour leader Ian Gray was publicly opposing any further enquiry into the Lockerbie affair and following the line of his Westminster bosses.

Their hypocrisy and indifference to human suffering since the tragedy in 1988 will not be evident in Monday’s debate when each will be seeking to outdo the other with their hollow rhetoric.

Make no mistake about it this debate is more about scoring political points for their own narrow political ends than it is about any real concern for compassion or justice.

I believe that all those who have been victims of crime or are fighting injustice should be treated with compassion.

It does not however follow that the compassion shown to Mr Al Megrahi was wrong. This is a different debate.

Totally agree with Mr Mckie in as far as it is the whole parliament and their respective parties that are to blame for this shambolic scenario.

But I must convey that the SNP have had the chance to make a diffence since the election. They should have prospered where these other parties failed but sadly they are failing all ends up.

They should have relased Mr Megrahi and let him pursue his appeal. This is disgraceful and they should be brought to account.
