The Chairman of The Fingerprint Inquiry Scotland, Sir Anthony Campbell, intends to publish his Report in mid December 2011. Prior to publication by the Chairman the Report will be delivered to Scottish Ministers, who set up the Inquiry in 2008. The Chairman, Sir Anthony Campbell, intends to publish his Report at 2 p.m. on Wednesday 14 December 2011 in The White Room, Radisson Blu Hotel, 301 Argyle Street, Glasgow, G2 8DL.
Core participants will have an opportunity to see the Report in advance at the venue on 14 December.
At 2 p.m. the Chairman will outline the background to the Inquiry and announce his key findings and key recommendations. This will be open to the public and the press.
The Chairman's statement and the Inquiry Report will become available on the Inquiry's website at that time.

‘UK FORENSICS UNDER FIRE’: THE FINGERPRINT INQUIRY REPORTS – BRIEFING PAPER

The long awaited report of the Fingerprint Inquiry Scotland will be published as shown above by the Inquiry Chairman, Sir Anthony Campbell.
The UK Forensic Regulator Andrew Rennison in recent written evidence to the Parliamentary Science and Technology Committee on the implications of the closure of the Forensic Science Service stated:

‘The Scottish Fingerprint Inquiry report and recommendations will be the result of a detailed and independent review of fingerprint methods, the results of which will have global implications for the quality standards that should underpin the use of fingerprint evidence.’
In a written statement to the same committee Dr Kevin Sullivan of the Forensic Science Service referred to:

‘……. criticisms in the imminent Scottish Fingerprint Inquiry Report regarding the lack of demonstrable scientific rigor in our current national approach to presenting fingerprint evidence in the courts.’
At a time when expert evidence is under increasing fire the contents and recommendations of this report are likely to add fuel to the call for massive changes in the way that fingerprint and forensic services are delivered across the world.
This briefing is released by Iain McKie as part of the lead up to a media conference to be held on 14th December immediately after the report publication.

Iain - you like my family have taken the same stance of persistence, persistence, persistence, when, like us, you know you have the determination and willpower to make a wrong, right.
You have been an enormus help to my family over the years with your help, comments and advice, and for that, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

While I hope that next week's report brings closure for Shirley I also hope that it will initiate a proper investigation into the murder of Marion Ross, point the way to a better system for the preparation and presentation of fingerprint and forensic expert evidence and hopefully offer some encouragement to those who seek justice.
I will continue to pursue these goals and also do what I can to support and advise those who have fought the good fight for years in the face of a system that appears to be blind, deaf and dumb.
Like yourself however I continue to be extremely sceptical of the capacity of the system to heal itself as the same mistakes are repeated time and again.
That said this report gives the Scottish Government, Crown Office and SPSA the opportunity to right wrongs. Let’s give them the chance.
I have enormous admiration for June, Hugh, yourself and your family and my wish for 2012 is that you find the truth about Kevin’s tragic death and that this truth brings you the peace you all deserve.
